Justice for Roxie: a Photo Fundraiser

It’s hard to believe such a cruel and unnecessary wrong would happen here in San Francisco, the city named after the patron saint of animals. Join Ruffles, Marisa Page and Family Dog Rescue for photo fundraiser in honor of Roxie, to help her mother pay the vet bills and replace the stolen money. At the request of Roxie’s mother, any additional funds raised will go to Family Dog’s miracle fund, which goes 100% towards vet bills for the dogs.

happy new year! ruffles highlights from 2012

Okay, the holiday season totally flew by this year. I might be getting old. Either way, I’m so grateful for everything 2012 brought!

Here are some Ruffles highlights (or rufflections, ha) from the past year.

- Ruffles has been in business for 18 months. I’ll be finishing my BFA at California College of the Arts over the next year, so 12 months until Ruffles goes full time. I can’t wait!

- Ruffles was featured in LIFE+DOG magazine, Lemonade & Lenses magazine, and Inclusions Gallery, as well as The Pet Anthology’s Pet Business Profiles and 30 Inspirational Pet Photographers list.

- We moved! The studio relocated from the Potrero/Dogpatch border to Bernal Heights. Loving the view and all the great location opportunities, missing the neighbors.

- Ruffles raised $900 towards a cure for canine cancer in the 2nd annual Smile for a Cure campaign. This was the second highest donation across the nation, three times the amount raised in last year’s campaign. A total of over $18,000 was donated to the National Canine Cancer Foundation. A great success! Thank you to everyone who participated.

- Ruffles was foster home to five sweet adoptable dogs from Northern California Family Dog Rescue. Wayyyy too many photos were taken (and that’s bad coming from me). Two were blind/deaf puppies, aka the ultimate photo challenge. It was a valuable experience as just a few months later I had a client shoot with a deaf dog (a well trained sweetheart who was admittedly easier than the puppies).

- I had a chance to get behind another pet photographer’s lens when Grace & Tim Hobson of Willow & Co (previously Red Bird Photography) came to visit all the way from Australia. I’ve done self portraits in the past but this was my first full shoot with another pet photographer. I finally understand how my clients feel during a shoot, as well as how treasured photos of you + your pet become. I have thousands of photos of Gozer, but the photos of us together are truly special.
Much thanks and love to everyone who has supported and become a part of Ruffles Art Studio over the last year, whether you were a client, customer, facebook fan, or simply there for support when things got crazy-busy. Here’s to 2013!

Happy Halloween, Ruffles style!

Happy Halloween, my Rufflers! I had fun experimenting with hand painted backdrops, perfect for Halloween (and Giants) fun. Nigel, Chester, Dwayne and Gozer were great models – the kittys really got their spookitude on for us. These are just a few of the images from our sessions. Make sure you check out the full set of photos on facebook! Seriously. There is a bearded dragon in a miniature vampire cape and I promise you do not want to miss that.
